Skansen, on Djurgården, “is today the world’s oldest open-air museum and was founded in 1891 by the linguist, teacher and folk educator Artur Hazelius”, in its own words. It is a zoo of Nordic animals as well as an open-air museum of old houses and farms, and keeps the year’s festivals: its Christmas market has been held since 1903, and it held the first Lucia procession in 1893.
